Vaccines

Spring may be starting to peek through as we get further into March, but we want to remind you that even with warmer weather on the horizon, now is not the time to let your guard down with taking precautions for your health and getting vaccinated!

Courtney visited the Central PA Live studios again yesterday to discuss several vaccinations we offer and have in stock for you at Duncansville Pharmacy.

You can view the entire segment below. Here is a recap for you as well!

Flu Shot

The worst of the flu season is hopefully behind us now, but we are still regularly seeing a large enough volume of customers coming in to fill a prescription for TamiFlu (an anti-viral medication for the flu). If you have not been vaccinated against the flu and are planning to travel abroad in the near future, we have flu vaccine available and can immunize you in a matter of minutes in the pharmacy!

Pneumonia Vaccination

Also commonly associated with winter weather, pneumonia, a respiratory lung/infection, can strike at any time. Why take the chance of getting sick when the weather is warm and being active is most important to you?

There are two forms of pneumonia vaccinations, and we carry both, including Prevnar13 (the new vaccination). We can discuss which would be best for you and help you in making the decision.

Whooping Cough
Whooping cough is a highly contagious respiratory tract infection. Many individuals were vaccinated as a child for it, but over time the effectiveness of the vaccine can decline, leaving you susceptible after age 20 for contracting.  Whooping cough is at highest risk for children under age 1, who are unable to be vaccinated, so we recommend you be vaccinated if you are a new parent, or work/come in contact with young children. The tDap vaccine (tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis (whooping cough)) will offer you the protection you need!

Zostavax/Shingles Vaccination

Are you over age 50 and have had chicken pox? If so, you will want to consider receiving a shingles vaccination. One in three adults are at risk of developing a case of shingles, as the virus lies dormant in your body typically until the 5th or 6th decade of your life.

We encourage you to be actively involved in managing your health, and protecting yourself and your loved ones! If you have questions or concerns you would like to discuss, we are always available to speak with you. Vaccinations are available during all of our regular business hours, and an appointment is never necessary!
